Hello Sam!
A PTH level will be telling. I had to make a stink at my Drs office and refuse to leave until she ordered the PTH test. Yup, I was poo-pooed too, and I'd had enough! At that point, I had 11 of the 16 symptoms of HPT and was getting sicker by the week! I'd passed 6 kidney stones in 2 years at that point (7th one happened 2 weeks later and got stuck! URGH!) and had been to see her 3 times in one month because of urinary frequency that was driving me nuts (had to go every 30 mins), horrible constipation, constant fatigue, heartburn, bone and joint aches and headaches almost every day. My muscles were beginning to twitch a lot as well...Anyhow, I had an egg-sized parathyroid tumor which, when removed made me feel like a new person! Most of the problems were gone by the next day! It was amazing...Look up Parathyroid.com and see if it fits. Hypercalcemia alone can make you pretty miserable as well and needs to be managed. Print out a list of the symptoms and check off each one that you have, then give it to your Dr. Demand a PTH test. Your Dr isn't the one paying for it, and if its not that, than find out what it is. Don't settle for being "blown off"...Good luck. I know this is exhausting...(((HUGZ))))~MM
Thank you both for your replies,
Blimey I must be tired,lol...all those spelling mistakes I made!!
I am about to do a 24 urine test, the urologist has asked the lab to look for Calcium, phosphate and uric acid.
I havn't had my vit D checked.....ha! it's been a struggle to get this far, I had to ask the urologist if a 24 hr test was appropriate-he reluctantly agreed to one and my GP won't even do a PTH level even though she admits my calcium level is high. She thinks all my symptoms are down to my medication....it was a case of put up or shut up!
I had very high cholesterol and started on Simvastatin...the tabs are working and cholesterol is coming down. The doc wanted me to come off them???
My stones are made of calcium combined with 75% oxalate and 25% phosphate.
No-one is putting anything together, yep, I am frustrated, lol.
once again thanks for your replies,
Take care,
Sam
Hi .. and WELCOME to our Community. I have MSK also and produce calcium oxalate stones. My calicum is normal-high and my parathyroids are ok but that is only known after lots of bloodwork, etc. Did they do a 24hr Urine analysis?
Also, have them run your Vitamin D .. many of us on MSK community have very low Vit D !
WELCOME ..

I do not have any experience with parathyroid...but Dr. Lupo from the expert forum usually refers people to www.parathyroid.com
Hope that helps! Good luck!
