Hypo/Hyper, Hashi/Graves, Nodule....HELP

Hi I am hoping you all can help me with this. I have had hypothyroidism for 20 years. In June I became hyper. After having a ultrasound, I have found out my thyroid is inflamed with a 1.5 cm nodule. All my blood work is still saying I am hyper. My t3 and t4 are normal. Last TSH was .003. I am scheduled for a thyroid up take test Friday. I am VERY nervous as to what this could be. Has anyone been through similar situation? Also, how do the Hyper symptoms go away. I hated being underactive but OMG hyper. Is so much worst. Jus want to feel good again, if that's possible.

Yes, that appears to be the case.  I'd say that thyca is a low probability, and even if found, it is very treatable.  Not to worry.  Note the following info I found.

"With the increased use of thyroid ultrasound, some studies suggest that thyroid nodules occur in >50% of the population. Studies report on possibility of thyroid cancer in about 5% of thyroid nodules. Fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) is the best way to find out whether a thyroid nodule is cancerous or benign."

Also, I found this.

"Most thyroid cancers are very curable. In fact, the most common types of thyroid cancer (papillary and follicular thyroid cancer) are the most curable. In younger patients less than 50 years of age, both papillary and follicular cancers have a more than 98% cure rate if treated appropriately."

Thank you so much for the info.

It is not unusual for nodules to form on the thyroid gland, especially if your Hypothyroidism was caused by Hashimoto's Thyroiditis.   These nodules can leak thyroid hormone at a rate that can cause elevated thyroid hormone and resultant hyper symptoms like you are experiencing.  I am sure after all this time you are ready for something to be done now.  So the doctor is scheduling further tests in order to determine your options.

Thank you for the  fast response. I guess this would make sense, still a little confused. So this would mean that I really have a underactive thyroid but I am hyper right now due to the nodule? Sorry, I am so nervous! I have been thinking thyroid cancer to.

I am confused by you saying that "all your blood work says hyper", but your "T3 and T4 are normal".  When you say you became hyper, is that based on having hyper symptoms, or because of the low TSH?  Also, please post your actual T4 and T3 test results and reference ranges shown on the lab report.

T3 179 (ref range 80-180) T3 free 419.6 (ref range 230.0-420.0) T4 free 1.19 (ref range .80-1.80) TSH .003 (ref range .35-5.50) yes I started having hyper symptoms and still do.
