Hypo and water retention

I've noticed my legs, feet and ankles are swelling up quite considerably through the day. I have normal blood pressure etc.

All of my weight gain has been my arms and legs rather than torso and I was wondering if it could be water retention. My legs are extremely obese but my body is reasonably normal for my age/ height.

It really bothers me for silly reasons. I can't get trousers to fit without falling down at the waist/bum but they're tight on my legs. I can't wear skirts because I don't want anyone seeing these things with the shape and girth of elephants legs.

Is this a common hypo response? Anyone else have huge legs and normal body?

When I went to Arizona (I'm from Seattle), I swelled up like a balloon in my ankles and calfs.  They were shiny because they were so stretched and they hurt.  I am on Synthroid now and going to Hawaii, we will see how I fare there.

Yes, I've been being treated for hypo for several years now.  I take Levoxyl, which is the same as Synthroid, just a different brand name.

Do you have labs to post?  If so, please do with reference ranges (ranges vary lab to lab and have to come from your own lab report).

How and when do you take your thyroid meds?  Do you make sure to take any other meds and supplements at least four hours away from yout thyroid meds?

It sounds like you might be either undermedicated or on the wrong meds for you.

Are you being treated for hypo?  Are you on synthroids?  My body is not absorbing the synthroid.  Now I am on 137 mcg. and hoping it absorbs to loose weight and the swelling in my ankles and feet.  Thanks for any info you can give.

When I was hypo, I had terribly swollen ankles (especially), feet and legs.  It was especially bad in hot weather.  At one point, my husband looked at them and looked scared!  After getting my thyroid meds adjusted properly, I lost 25 lbs quite quickly without doing anything differently.  I think it was probably mostly water given how fast it came off.

Are you on meds?  If so, which and at what dose?  Do you have recent labs to post to see how your meds seem to be doing?  If so, please post along with reference ranges.
