They are lowering your med based only on TSH - gimel is right - you need to have other tests done: Free T4 and Free T3.
My doctor was doing the same thing to me and fortunately, I ended up with an endo that checks thyroid hormones as well as TSH..........my TSH still remains below the "normal" range, but I feel better than I've felt in years.........
I had new labs done last Tues and am anxiously awaiting the results...........the only thing I might want to change is increase my levothyroxin dosage and leave the cytomel as is @ 5 mcg/day.
The reason they keep lowering your meds is that unfortunately many doctors still have the "Immaculate TSH" belief. A low TSH does not make you hyper. Symptoms make you hyper or hypo. What other tests for thyroid have been done? Please post the results and reference ranges. Also, what med and dosage are you on?
If you haven't been tested for free T3 and free T4, that would be a good idea. The "Frees" are the actual, biologically active thyroid hormones that regulate metabolism and many other body functions. TSH is a pituitary hormone that is affected by many variables. It does not correlate very well at all with hypo symptoms. FT3 correlates best with hypo symptoms.
By the way, I also had a low TSH for over 30 years, with no hyper symptoms. I actually had lingering hypo symptoms, because I belatedly found out that my body was not converting T4 to T3 very well, so I switched to a combo T4/T3 med.
why don't you tell this to your doctor ??
if you feel good on certain dose ,tell this to your doctor , it sounds like he treat you according to the numbers only !!
