I had RAI ten years ago. Within the past year I've been having hypo symptoms with normalNormal saline flush Thyroid labs. In March my GP ran a 24 hour cortisolCortisol level - range is 10-110. Mine came back less than range. GP agreed that I should be treated for the cortisolCortisol level problem but he couldn't take me any further so he sent me to an "endo" who told me that even though my labs were low, his physical exam didn't show an adrenalAddison’s disease Adrenal gland biopsy Adrenalectomy Catecholamines - blood insufficieny and since my thyroid test was normalNormal saline flush there wasn't anything wrong with me - I should take an antidepressant! GP told me you need cortisolCortisol level for the thyroid meds to work. He did give me a 30 day trial of Cytomel which improved my temps and pulse but seemed to make my hypoglycemia, fatigue and dehydration worse. I had to stop the Cytomel and my temps are back in the 96's and 97's. Does anyone else have a similar problem? I read that you have to treat the adrenal problem first with coexistent hypo thyroid, but what do you do to help the adrenal function if a doctor won't prescribe meds. The over the counter products- glandulars, vitamins and licorice root only help so much.
I really don't have an answer for you, or any suggestions, other than possibly to call your GP back and let them know that the new Dr won't treat your adrenals, and maybe they will suggest someone else. I'm sorry you're having a hard time. I haven't ever had mine checked, I'm having RAI in three days, if I have problems going back on my synthroid I think I'll insist, I'm unsure but what I've previously read it's a short term treatment, unlike hypothyroidism.
God Bless and I hope you find the answer soon to get feeling better::
