Hypothyroid and hair loss

I was off all meds for 3 months and my TSH went from 8.1 to 91.  My endo said doing this wouldn't cause any serious problems and we'd monitor my levels in 3 months.  The decision to do this was to stop my hair loss which I thought was from the medication (synthroid).  Well, I continued to have hair loss and want to know if the hair loss is because of the hypothyroidism or is it the medication and how do I stop it.  My endo now says its not from synthroid its the fluctuating TSH levels.  If this is true why the - - - - would she agree for me to go off meds when she knew I was having trouble w/hair loss and wanted to stop it.  This is getting pretty depressing/stressing me out.  This is becoming more difficult to deal with.  Is this hair loss ever going to stop and will my hair grow back?????

i would see another doctor. When it comes to the thyriod its hard to find the right doctor. Their are a million stories just like yours. People need to read about thyriod disease before taking any advice or medicine from a doctor. Educate yourself before you end up taking med for life or trying to find out the perfect dose. I was prescribe synthroid but by the time a second doctor said i really didn't need it . It fried my thyriod now i have to take it the rest of my life

Thanks for your reply.  Unfortuneately it's too late for me too.  My thyroid is not functioning at all.  I was originally sub clinical w/ TSH of 8 but since I've been on the drugs for 5/6 yrs and then off for 3 months, my TSH level went to 91 and endo said it was not functioning at all so I too will be on drugs the rest of my life.  I emailed the endo I was seeing yesterday and got little help and was told she was no longer going to be at the center I visit so I'd be seeing a new endo.  Problem solved but it sounds kinda fishy to me!  Ask a few questions and she's no longer available -- may be blessing in disguise.  I should have gotten a second opinion -- live and learn!
