Hypothyroidism

I have been taking Synthroid for 6 weeks. I haven't noticed any change in my symptoms.  I am extremely tired.   Have gained so much weigh!  My skin looks pasty and I look so unhealthy!   Can anyone tell me when I will feel better?

I agree with Totie...it's just about time to have follow-up blood work.  The initial dose we're put on is very seldom our optimal dose.  If you start out on too high a dose or increase too rapidly, you can have some pretty unpleasant symptoms, so starting out low and increasing as tolerated and necessary is the way to go.

It takes 4-6 weeks for a dose to stabilize in out blood.  After that, no further changes can be expected until meds are increased.  So, it's time to re-test.  Keep in mind that after we've been hypo for a while, symptoms can take a while to improve since our bodies have to heal.

What dose of Synthroid are you on?  Do you take it first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach, with a full glass of water and then wait half to one hour before eating or drinking anything else?  Do you take all other meds and supplements at least 4 hours away from thyroid meds?

I finally went to my nutritionist who had her line of vitamins and supplements..I am taking her powder form of the Vit D which is working great and the Super B's which help especially now that I am sleeping soundly..

Hang in there..When do you get your blood work done again? You should be getting it done pretty soon. Usually you would get it redone in 6-8 weeks.

Also please make sure they test your B12 & Vit d, majority of hypo patients have low levels of vit d.

It did take a bit before I got my energy back & felt semi normal, but ONCE they got the dosage correct I started to feel better.

It took me quite awhile for me to feel better I had to change my diet and wait for the snythroid  to kick in..Try to at least do some biking or treadmill to keep your strength up even though you are so tired..I gained so much weight it was looking as if I had signs leaning toward diabetes..so my diet was glucerna shakes.. more fruits and veg..and some light cardio..the weight is finally dropping..I couldn't do to much as far as work out since I had no energy but I did do some..now I can do more..it seemed to just be a waiting game at this point..lots of luck..btw I also incorporated B sublingual drops and a multi vita of the Power B's ..
