Hypothyroidism

by cynthia-padula orlando, Sep 26, 2007 07:48PM
i just recently found out i have an under active thyroid gland. I was wondering if i would lose or gain weight once i was on meds, and what side affects would medication have on me?

Hi cynthia -  It is hard to answer that question as I don't know what symptoms you are having now.  It may take them awhile to get the right doseage and sometimes if you get too much meds you can have symptoms from that or too little and it doesn't take care of your symptoms you are having now.  For me the medicine itself didn't produce symptoms but the amount did.  I have gone both ways- I have lost and gained.  Right now I am gaining weight and am waiting to see if my thyroid is getting to normal.  I hope when it gets there I will be able to lose weight easier.  I hope this helps.
There are many others on this forum that know so much more than me.   lol  Linda (:

When your levels are regulated you should be able to lose the weight again.  The meds shouldn't really have any bad affects on you.
