Hypothyroidism Causing Bad Memory & Neck Pain?

Hi, I've been on levothyroxine since July, the smallest dosage. I'm also taking 20 mg of fluoxetine. The past few years I've been very tired (which I contribute somewhat to the fluoxetine and is normal), and my memory seems to be declining (way before I started taking the fluoxetine). I am only 22 years old, so I'm HOPING it is due to the hypothyroidism. My question is if this is a possibility or not? I have trouble concentrating, but I'm pretty sure it's not ADD or ADHD. I can get things done if I need to, but it takes so much out of me to be able to concentrate and actually remember things. I used to remember EVERYTHING, now I can't remember something as simple as where I put something earlier in the day. I've been under a lot of stress these last few years as well. I've also been experiencing neck pain more so than usual. I have about eighteen nodules in my throat. I had them all checked, so far they are not cancerous. I feel like they are growing though and maybe new ones as well lower in my neck as well as around my chin area. I think I am very sensitive to caffeine, the only thing I ever have with it is coffee. It's hard for me not to drink any, but when I do my throat does feel a little better. I've asked others about this, but they never noticed a connection. I go back to my endocrinologist sometime this month, and I had my blood retaken. So I will be asking him as well. But I just figured I'd ask some people who have gone through this as well. Thanks for any help.

Yes, being hypo can cause memory issues and neck pain.........I don't know what you are referring to as "the smallest dose" -- I guess that would probably only be about 12.5 mcg??

It would be very helpful if you could post your lab results.  It sounds like you should have antibody testing to see if you have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, which is an autoimmune disease and is the main cause of hypothyroidism.

If there is a lot of inflammation, it can feel like your thyroid is swelling.  Until I got it under control, mine often felt like it was literally choking me to death.  Taking a daily dose of selenium may help keep the antibodies from raging so badly.  It helps me, but it doesn't help everyone and it does take a while for it to make a difference.......

I don't know the side effects of fluoxetine - you might want to check that out also.
