wow brigee thanks for your advice..i tried the lubricant like totie said..it helps alot..so im gonna try the flaxseed oil..does it affect your body in any way besides being good..( the flaxseed oil) i knows its just oil..but should i look for anything out of the ordinary..
Evening primrose oil is good and you shouldn't stop taking it, but it's not an Omega-3. Omega-3's fight inflammation in your body. Plus, my optometrist said my eyes had "an oil problem," as in not enough. I alternate taking (1) 1200mg capsule of fish oil daily and (1) 1000mg capsule of flaxseed oil daily. That's just a personal preference. Also, when my eyes were really bad, I took one of each for 4 or 5 days. And I highly recommend the Systane eye drops for immediate short-term relief until the Omega-3's kick in or when you have eyestrain from the computer or reading. Good luck, Hon!
thank you brigee also..so the flaxseed oil or fish oil is good..? how many times a day should i take the flaxswwd oil..i use primrose evening oill..is that any good for eyes..Thanks so much for all the advice..i really appreciat that..brigee..how many miligrams should i take..thanks so much to all for your input..and any advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated
I have had chronic dry eye problems ever since I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and Hashi's way back in 1996. After a lot of trial and error, I found that supplementing with Omega-3's (fish oil or flaxseed oil) keeps it in check. Also, during a severe attack, my optometrist recommended some OTC eye drops called "Systane." He instructed me to use the Systane at least 3 times a day for about a week, and then as needed. (They're cheap - about $9 at Walmart.) On days when I have spent too much time on the computer and/or reading, a couple of drops do the trick.
thanks so much..for all your advice..i couldnt even sleep last night..my eyes were killing me..litterally..thank you totie and dreeftwppd..i really need some relief..i cant take this sometimss..i can even function..
You can ask the pharmacitst for them. They are different brands. It comes in a tube. It is very easy to apply. I pull the bottom eye lid down a squirt a bit & then close eyes until the ointment moistens the entire eye.
Hopefully it works for you..
I have dry eyes too and the eye doc can put alittle silicon implant in your tear duct with helps. It takes 20 secs and is not big deal.
Also use refresh tear drops, ONLY the single use ones.. ie preservative free. Use 2-3 times a day and be conistant. It's like dry skin, you can't use lotion once and expect it to go away...
thanks alot..what is the name of it..or do i just ask for eye ointment..thank again..and..what are some of the eye oinments..i never heard of eye ointments..wow..thanks so much for answering..i appreciate that..
It is OTC oniment, it is for night time, but my neuro was right it helped keep my eyes moist through out the day when I used it in the morning as well. Now I do use eye drops if I need them through out the day. I have to stay out of the wind & always wear sun glasses when outside if sun is out. My eyes bulge out slightly so I have no protection & this regime seems to help.
