hello.
did they diagnose you with postpartum thyroiditis? or hashimotos? it sounds like you had a hyper phase (when you lost the weight) and now you're in a hypo phase. usually when you're hyper then hypo so quickly (like in your case) and since it's after pregnancy, you most likely have postpartum thyroiditis. the bad news is that you really crash and become hypo for a little while. the good news is that usually the thyroid recovers, and you'll be able to taper off your meds.
i have silent thyroiditis which is the same as postpartum thyroiditis except it wasn't after a pregnancy. i went through a hyper phase where i lost weight, then i crashed into a hypo phase. i've been on 112 synthroid since the end of july 2008. recently my levels were showing hyper, so i'm being tapered down to 88 synthroid. i'm hoping to eventually get off the meds and have my own hormones back.
look up postpartum thyroiditis and ask your doc which disease they think you have. it's good to know because it may be temporary. hashimotos is usually a slow destruction of the thyroid that ultimately results in complete thyroid failure. but usually it takes years in hashimotos.
you probably need more synthroid or a combo of t4/t3. what are your levels right now? when did you start the meds? it takes several months to start to feel like your old self.
With having a new born and dx'd w/ Hashimoto - your body is still going through natural changes from the birth too.
Things may take time as stated above to balance out. Add supplements in slowly. Don't overburden your body and then find you may not need somethings right away.
The vit D is good along with B's and magnesium. You may want to look into adding Selenium too to assist your meds in converting the hormone too.
Sorry , All members here have gone through the symptoms you are having, I have Hashi's too, It takes time for your body to adjust to Hormone meds, you will need to be tested (Blood Work) every six weeks, until your levels are within range. Take 1200 units of Vitamin D a day, (4 Hours after thyroid meds) take Vitamin B Complex (Stress) and Magnesium Daily, It seems most Hashi sufferers are deficient in these Vitamins, I had severe muscle aches and spasms, I was advised by members here to take the Vitamins and it made a world of difference. If you have your lab results post them here, Free T3 Free T4 and TSH also the ranges provided on the lab results, I started out at 125mg Synthroid in Jan 09, I finally reached a Non-Symptomatic level in May 09 after several dose adjustments I am at 75mg and feel much better than I have in some time. Good Luck FTB4
