I think I have a problem.

I had a complete hysterectomy/bi lateral salipingo oopheratomy for ovarian cancer in 2001.  I am in remission.  I get checked with mri every three months.  I used to get an iodine contrast ct, but developed an allergy to the iodine approximately two years ago. I can not take estrogen.

The last two years has brought a lot of weigh gain and slow rise in bp, now at 143/110.  I have started having 'sweats' similar to hot flashes in the last three months. I have several 'sweats' a day.  My husband has commented that my face often looks puffy.  My hair has become very coarse.  My skin is dry.  I have gone from being a night owl to falling asleep on the couch at 7pm.  I have lost some of my eyebrow hair. I feel like the human slug.  I have NEVER felt this bad in my life except when pre ovca surgery. At the time of surgery I weighed 139.  I now tip the scales at 197.  I have gained about 30 lbs in a year and a half.

My recent blood work contained this:
Creatinine   0.7
TSH 3.26

Also my cholestrol from a different test came out at 300.

I have tried losing weight, faithful to weight watchers.  I have lost 4 lbs in two months.
I am convinced I have a thyroid problem.  Do you think so?  Thanks is advance for the help.

I developed an allergy to the iodine contrast used in ct scans.  I can have the contrast used in MRI because it does not include iodine.  I had several ct's with iodine contrast because of ovarian cancer.  I had the ct's over several years.

Oddly enough, contrast dye has been known to cause problems in an alreadly failing thyroid.  My thyroid problems manifested after I received contrast dye for an MRI.  Now I am unable to take any type of contrast dye unless the benefits would outweigh the risks.  What type of allergy did you develop?

Thanks for answering.  I will print this off and ask about it.  Here are the ranges.

My results with ranges are:
TSH  3.26        range 0.35 - 5.5
Creatinine 0.7  range 0.6 - 1.4
Glucose 86      range 65-199
Sodium 141     range 135-145

I agree with Nyxie, you need to have these things checked.

You sound like a classic hypothyroid patient.  I'd suggest getting your FreeT4, FreeT3, TPO and Tg antibodies done, along with a 24-hour saliva cortisol test.  Write these tests down and take them to your dr.  If your dr won't run them, then either find another dr or get them done yourself.  There are lots of online labs that will do these for you, at a fairly reasonable price.

Do you have the ranges for your creatinine and sodium?  It's usually helpful to post the ranges along with any test results, because ranges differ from lab to lab depending on what equipment they use.

I gained about 30lbs post surgery in one year.  The gyn onc took me off premarin.  I stopped gaining.  I have not had hot flashes since 2003.
