I think I made a big mistake

A few years back, I was diagnosed with Graves' Disease.  5' 9" and 150 lbs.  Ambitious, motivated, energetic and organized.  Doctor said I was a "sick puppy," and encouraged me to do the radioactive iodine.  Well, the heart palpitations have definetely ceased.  My hands still tremble. Yet, I have lost all ambition, motivation and my whole attitude about organization is "manyana."  I've gained 50 lbs., and I consider myself a healthy eater.  I think I should have tried to control the Graves' Disease with medicine first.  The radioactive thing is final.
So, I've tried many various and sundry diets with any results.  Now I'm going to try to eat one meal a day.  Let's see if I can do that for a month and see what the results are one day at a time.  This has been a frustrating period of life for me.  I'm embarrassed to be this heavy 225 lbs.  Any suggestions from those who have walked in similar footsteps?

Stimulants are not a good idea with hyper symptoms..you need to run this by your Dr. first..You will give your self a heart attack with the stimulants..your heart beats will be rapid once again.  Ask your Dr. for a water pill. The dr. can regulate your water weight with this.  Dont play with your heart with stimulants.

thanks so much for your comments.  it's just extremely difficult for me to eat small meals throughout the day.  i have taken all your very knowledgeable opinions, and I will chew them around a bit.  For now, it has been 4 days with 1 meal a day, and I feel like I've dropped some water weight at least.  l'll report back to you guys after a week or so.  thanks so much for your input.  my motivation and ambition has been so low for so long now that i've considered finding some kind of (not caffeine) stimulant to give me some energy.

Since you had Graves you also need to keep a check on you blood sugar and make sure it's ok.

Also if your TSH is not down around 1, but is us around the 3 mark you probably won't feel as good as you could and will gain weight easier.

Yes everyone is correct on maintaining proper eating habits.

There are two major keys to gaining weight for hypos

Storing insulin and cortisol.

We need to trick the body into burning these with proper foods to lose the weight.

I agree with Laura1967.  Do not just eat 1 meal a day.. you can eat 6 small meals a day and lose weight.  They have to be balanced.   start slow..delete something from your diet..like maybe a soda..or candy..certain fruits which contain sugar..or pasta maybe two nites instead of three...just examples.

You will gain weight not lose if you do 1 meal a day..your body will think your starving and hold on to what ever it has.

You won't lose weight eating one meal a day. When you go hypo your metabolism slows down. The thyroid regulates metabolism. I had gained weight when I went hypo for the first time in my life....I was exactly like you....under weight and a business guru.
I have lost all my thyroid weight by boosting my metabolism. No fluke diets or pills. You need to eat the right foods and you need to eat every 3 hrs. It will then boost your metabolism and your body will slowly start to burn calories. I have studied nutrition and natural health for about 14 yrs. I would be happy to freely share with you a proper eating program for you to try if you would like. Just message me and let me know.
It is important to support your body and metabolism so it can perform the way it is intended. Then you will not have to worry about gaining it back again.
