I'M BACK - LOL

I HAVE NOW EXPERIENCED A REAL ANXIETY ATTACK - well, make that 3!  I have been in the hospital since Sunday - that really stinks b/c I don't have a laptop so was forced to watch TV the entire week.  I am now further adicted to CSI Miami, but have gotten over LAW & ORDER, because I am sure I have seen them all.  Still love the L&O SVU, but the original has definitely run its course with me!!!

I started running a fever on Sunday and felt really funny with bad headaches so I called my doc and he told me to go to the ER and he'd phone in orders. I got there, and could barely see or breathe so I made my hubby call my doc and he came up. Ordered a CT and Chest X-Ray (insert anxiety attack here x3) and both were fine, my incision in the belly button was really red around it and my fever spiked so they admitted me and started high dose antibiotics. I was run through 3 different types of antibiotics.  They let me out yesterday with Clindamycin every eight hours by mouth. I am allergic to the med (itching everywhere) so they make me take benedryl to stop that. My Gyn, bless he pour little heart, was heart broken that this happened to me. They opened the wound a tiny bit to let the staph infection ooze.  He called in a surgeon to oversee, just to make sure he was on top of everything.  They are still waiting on the final word on cultures to see what kind of staph it was to see if they will have to add to my med to get rid of it completely and to see if my kids will have to be treated if it is MRSA.  YUCKY week for me, but, oh well.  I'm back now!

Yoyo is my new name!  OMG went to the followup consult with the surgeon that oversaw my inpatient care and IT IS NNNOOOTTTT  MRSA ------ ITS MSSA!  He said the infection is cleared from the surgical site and I am basically cured.  Have to finish the antibiotics (Levaquin) then I am all healed.  Miraculous!  Marched my bum to the gyn office and told them they told me the wrong information and said I see them tomorrow.  Feeling good today! :o)

I work for a doc defense med mal firm as a paralegal.  My boss is staying out of it.  I don't want to sue my doc at this point but I am giving real thought to the surgery center at this point.  I walked in there a healthy person that did not want more kids and walked out a person with MRSA.  I am so mad, but mainly at myself.  The surgery center keeps calling me daily b/c they want to know what the culture result was and since they were not associated with the Hospital that treated me inpatient for the staph, they can't get the info.  I have not decided what to do yet.  Will talk to the surgeon (General surgeon, not my gyn) about next steps and infectious disease specialist.  I see my gyn on Thursday.  I know he feels bad about it, I do his defense work.   At a loss.

MRSA?!??!    I hope that the hospital lawyers are buzzing about you making sure that they can kiss your toes so you don't sue the cr@p out of that hospital!!!   They had better be sending you flowers and telling you all of this is on-the-house!

Hey stella - I brought it with me (well, hubby came home and got it) but I was in an out of it for the first couple of days due to the fever and pain med.

Selma - thanks - horrible to be me right now, huh.  The little one went back to daycare today.  No results on her Mono test yet but the pedi called the nasal stuff to treat my kids in.  I see my consult surgeon (they called one in to oversee while I was in hospital) tomorrow for the infection and will request I see an infectious disease specialist.  I cannot get anywhere near my mother in law at present and have to bathe the kids in bleach once a week in addition to the bactriban in the nose.  Hubby will have to be treated too.  My docs will probably  have to wear the extra protection around me too.  All because I chose to get my tubes tied.  I'm so stupid.

AWWWW - thanks guys and gals!  I feel better today, but had a little headache all day.  I think its by body adjusting to properly taking the Armour again since I missed so much of it in the hospital.

The little one, well, I was not so lucky.... poor baby, we went to the doc with fever (but it broke while waiting) and swollen gland in the left neck along with her swollen tonsils.  When the doc examined her, the RIGHT side was more swollen than the left.  2 throat swabs later and a finger *****, the doc was still not sure so I had to take my 3 year old to have a blood draw.  OMG.  She screamed bloody murder but was fine when she saw the M&Ms I stashed in my purse for her.  We are waiting to see if she has Mono.  That will just be the cap to a bad couple of weeks for me.  I am headed back to work tomorrow regardless, since she does not have fever.  I can't do anything about mono for her, just can't send her to school (daycare) with fever.

I can't wait to get in front of my work computer!  Need some normal me time! LOL - the things I look forward to are crazy these days!

I to have experinced MAJOR PA! I hate it! I have to take Clonazepam three times a day. I have for years! Or When needed. It is a bad deal. I KNOW it is from Thyroid stuff...
Good luck you are in my thoughts hang in there!

Glad you are surviving. Staph is so tricky. My son is a freshman and plays football, and i can tell you, getting staph is so easy, it is getting rid of it that is the problem. We currently have it running around the boys athletic locker room. The school claims to sterilize the locker rooms real well, but it has not stopped the staph from spreading, every week another two boys will come down with it.

But please check your kids up and down, BE VERY SUSPICIOUS OF SOMETHING THAT MAY LOOK LIKE A MEQUITO BITE OR INSECT BITE.....

What  the heck??

Terrific time you had this week. :(

I hope the Levaquin is good for you - when I was given it - it felt like it was ripping my stomach up like glass!

It's a doozy.

Thanks Utah, Laura and Terri for the vote of confidence and for checking in on me!

Well - called the on call doc b/c the incision looked like it was bleeding.  They said no worries there but the cultures came back and I am not on the right antibiotic!  OMG - when does it end!!  So, off of the clindamycin and on to Leviquin 1 x a day for 10 days.  That is much better than the every 8 hrs, I must say.  The final result was staph - just plain staph, that was resistent to clindamycin.  They don't have a lot of antiboitic choices for me since I am deathly allergic to penicillin.  Leviquin must do the trick.

The little one is still running fever but I figured it out.  She has swollen tonsils but says her throat does not hurt.  Taking her to the doc tomorrow.  Oh what fun it is at my house these days.  I am feeling better today and will be glad to not have to take the benedryl anymore since I am not allergic to Leviquin.  Maybe I can stay awake a full day tomorrow!

Oh wow, make it stop!!    I'm so sorry you've been through so much and hope that your little one will be okay.   Being stuck in the hospital for that long is no fun, is it?

I'm glad you are back!!

Thanks AR!  Kinda worried now since my three year old is running fever this evening.  Checked her up and down and I don't see any boils or whatever.  She has had a swollen lymph node in the neck for a week but otherwise felt fine so the pedi said just watch her.  Guess it will be a trip for her to the doc on Monday instead of me getting back to work.
