I'm confused...will my goiter shrink?

I got a goiter about a month ago and was put on Levothyroxine.

I never even noticed it until I was diagnosed and now I can feel a little bump there.

Will the goiter shrink from the medication or is the medication just to prevent it from getting any bigger? I've read mixed research online.

I swear I can feel it getting bigger...will it get bigger before it gets smaller?

Thanks!

I would have an ultrasound done to confirm it. It takes time. I hate to say it. Its going to be a long time befroe I am up to par.

Well, I know my TSH was high and the next time I was tested, I had thyroid antibodies.

Doesn't that mean that I Hashi's too or is there some other test I should have them do next time I get bloodwork?

I would first have them make sure you don't have an autoimmune disease. I can tell you this. My thyroid gland was huge. I have hashi's . I would suggest getting tested for that. or other autoimmune diseases. It took 7 months to shrink it. down ot a lb. But at least its not 100 lol

Hi,
My Endo told me, Synthroid is used to keep the thyroid from growing, but in very small cases 2%-5%, Synthoid reduced an enlarged thyroid.

Iodine can only treat thyroid enlargement due to iodine deficiency.
in all other cses it may cause additional harm.

probably not.  there are some others that have had good results from iodine treatments.
Ask your doctor about this.
Hopefully some of the others will be in to give some more info.
Good luck
