In response to Complex Cold Nodule

by Tay415, May 20, 2008 08:24AM
I have the exact same thing. I discovered my lovely lump about a year ago. The first thing they did was treat is as Subacute Thyroididious...the treatment didn't work so they did a sonogram. They showed it was 10% cyst, and the rest was tissue. I was told other than surgery there is nothing they can do.  The biopsy showed is was not cancer for the time being. I didn't want to have surgery because I the day I got my biopsy was a week after I had major foot surgery. I felt like something just wasn't right with the way the doctor was handeling this. All my thyroid levels were normal. So, I switched doctors, he had me do a Thyroid scan. This showed it was a cold complex nodule. From reading your post I've collected you've been told the only option is surgery for this. My doctor gave me a surgeon to contact about an injection that will collapse the walls of this mass and make it go away! How awesome is that? My wedding is in 18 days from today so I'm hoping to get this done soon! Hopefully it works. My doctor did she the surgeon may say to have surgery because of the size...but I'm hoping this injection will zap it away!!!

If the nodule is the same size as it was a year ago , the chanses are it is benign; the ethanol injection is used to treat the simple cysts; however this method was tried for  the variety of thyroid lessions, with some degree of success. If the injection would be done under the ultrasound guidance, it could be effective, in the worse case it would just not be 100 pecent efficient
