You might want to do some research on thyroid hormone resistance. It's a relatively rare condition in which cells cannot absorb T3 until the concentration in the blood is very high. You're on a fairly hefty dose of Cytomel, and THR might explain why.
Hi, I am new here, happy to read so many others with my problems! I have taken synthroid for years, many different dosages to not much avail. My tsh has been as high as 112.53, last check 2 months ago it was 53.24. finally my Dr. added cytomel, 50mcg. I feel alive again. I take 150 mcg synthroid.
The ratio of T4 Synthyroid to T3 Cytomel should be 4 to 1. That is,
100 mcg Synthroid and 25 mcg Cytomel and in which is a starting dose combination. When TSH is too high Cytomel dose might be too low. If TSH was optimal F/T-3 would be high and F/T-4 low. Cytomel may decrease T4. I don't think your Cytomel/Synthroid ratio is correct. Unless other things are going on; you didn't care to share your levels.(?)
T3 dose should be split and taken every 6 to 8 hour interval, if not time released. For instance, if the dose is 25 mcg, then take 5 mcg. pills, four times a day or every 6 hours.
Everyone is different, and only blood monitoring over time will tell you which dose you personally need. Be careful, take your time and do it right. You need midrange levels and not below midrange.
Good Luck!
Are you seeing a endocrinologist? If not, I would consider this. What was your last TSH reading? Have you been tested for antibodies? How long have you been on the meds? A little more info would be helpful.
