Information, Please

I'm having a real problem getting my test results from my doctor. He and his staff act like they're keeping state secrets. I*'m trying to find another doctor but the ones I've contacted want my test results and I don't have them.
The information is mine, isn't it? I paid for it. WHat's the big deal, or is this normal?

i just started going to a doctors that has all blood work done at the office when i asked about my blood test results they printed them out and just gave them to me , it always was before i had to go to the hospital records department or the lab i went to and ask for a copy , very strange i can't believe they would hold them from you.

hey, all that you have to do is go to the department in the hosp where you had it done at and ask them for a copy of your results. they may ask for your ID but they will give it to you.  your results belong to you.

I agree with the other comments - they ARE your tests, you paid for them and your doctor is obligated to give you copies.  Every time I go to my pcp, they give me a copy of my lab report for my records.  My endo just puts on the lab order for the lab to send me a copy...........you are entitled to those results; BUT as Mellowscout said - you should not be required to bring a copy with you to a new doctor - I've always just signed the form and had them get my records from my previous doctor........

I agree with dawnangela, your tests are your right.  And you shouldn't have to have them for a new doctor.  You should just sign a form allowing them to fax your old doctor for your results, so don't let that stop you from finding a better doctor then the one you have right now.

Mellowscout...best of luck.
