Interpreting thyroid ultrasound / scan results

by loulou38, Sep 12, 2008 06:18AM
I am a 38 year old female. I would like help interpreting recent ultrasound results. The ultrasound shows: the right lobe measures 5.6 cm in greatest length, 2.1  cm in greatest AP dimension, and 1.6 cm in greatest transverse dimension. The left lobe measures 8.5 cm in greatest length, 2.0 cm in greatest AP dimension, and 2.0 cm in greatest transverse dimension. The isthmus measures 6.3 mm. Both lobes of the thyroid glands are enlarged with a diffusely heterogeneous echo texture. In the right lobe, two solid nodules are identified, the larger is in the mid-to-lower pole measuring 8.7 mm, the smaller is in the mid-pole measuring 4.7 mm. There is a 6.6 mm hypechoic nodule in the mid-to-upper pole. There is a dominant solid nodule in the lower pole of the left lobe measuring up to 2.8 cm in greatest dimension. There is a hypoechoic 3.8 mm nodule in the mid pole. Thank you for your help.

Hello,
I also have nodules on my thyroid.  My doctor's biopsy if they are above 1cm.  I had to get one of them biopsied.  Everything came back fine.  The thing that stinks with nodules is that some can be hyper putting you into thyroiditis which happened to me.

Blessings,
Nikki

Can anyone explain i recently had sonogram done on my thyroid. it reads like this ! ( Right lobe is enlarged 5.6 cm in length. The left lobe is 4.6 cm in length.Dominant mass is seen in the right thyroid toward its lower pole. This is complex cystic in apperance and measures 3.1 x 2.2 cms. smaller hypocchoic densities are seen one in the isthmus and one in the left lobe.)  so can anyone interpit. they want me to get a byopsy.exactly how big do you think the cyst is ? hopefully someone out there know's.
