Irregular menstral cycles. I don't know what to do!

I've been diagnosed with Hypothyroid since 1999 or 2000 and I've always had crazy or irregular menstral cycles.  Some months I would have one and others I wouldn't.  My doctor then put me on birth control to regulate my periods and it worked.  It was good for me because I was not use to having regular menstal cycles and the premenstral pain was minimal.  Now back in March of 2007 my periods just stop coming and I've been that way ever since.  I've had a pap smear done recently and everything came back normal.  The doctor prescribed me birth control pills again to see if my periods would return but I haven't gotten them yet because they are too expensive and I don't want to rely on birth control for the rest of my life to have a regular period.  What could the problem possibly be. I am a bit concerned because I know this is not normal.  I am only 22 years old and everyone keeps saying I'm fine but I don't believe that is the truth. Can you please help me?

If your thyroid is being properly regulated, I would ask for sex (ovaries) hormone testing.
You may want to google PCOS.

I would get the tests Ifupleeze mentioned.  Also, I had a friend like you and she had to be on b/c to have a period.  Her doctor said her hormones were not balanced.  I would have some more tests to rule out that and other things.  Good luck:)

You might be experiencing adrenal failure.  This can cause irregular periods and several symptoms are the same as hypothyroid.  Ask your doctor to test for adrenals including DHEA, cortisol and a full metabolic panel.
