The brands have a better reputation for being more consistent from pill to pill and bottle to bottle. But...and this a big but...that by no means they are considered 'perfectPerfect choice.' No thyroid medication is.
I have been told and read the same thing as you. Some say go with the brand; some say generic is fine. But I have to say with a TT, the 'go with the brand' out numbers the other. However, since it's been a while since surgery for you and a generic works...well, then that seems fine (it's certainly cheaper).
In my case, because I have other isssues, the endos wants to strive for the more consistent pill. So that if something seems off, they can more likely eliminate the med as a possibility and go onto investigating other things. That all made sense to me so I went with it.

Good luck.
