Is there a link between acne and thyroid disease

My dermatologist said no, but no acne treatments work for me topical or otherwise. I also notice if I miss a dose of anithyroid med I get hard breakouts around my jaw. My skins been clearing up but not clear enough. I've had acne problems since 13 and I'm now 30. Anybody else? Actually, the only thing that completely cleared my skin was an antibiotic called Bactrim. But of course, I was allergic to it.

Try washing your face with a gentle water soluble cleanser like cetaphile.Soap leaves behind stuff that makes you break out. Also at night use a beta hydroxy acid to exfoliate. It has the ability to penetrate the pore and clean out the dead skin cells that the bacteria lies to breed in. Do this at night.

for current breakouts 10% benzoil peroxide is the best zit zapper otc.I get the equate from Wal Mart.It works great. you should see an improvement in about 3 to 4 weeks.I use to have horrible acne. But since I follw this skin care regime My skin looks better than it did in my teens and I am 50 now
Good luck and let me know how it works for you.

Don't know about thyroid problems causing it, but you are 30 and the hormones start falling off at 30 and the adult acne starts.  I had really bad acne at about 13, but my mom helped me get it under control and didn't have any more problems with it until in my 30's.  It sucks big time.

You know, most of my pregnancy I was on Bactrim.  Never occurred to me before that it could have been the reason I didn't have bad acne through last half of pregnancy.  duhhuh!  Boy, i'm speedy.

Am in a constant battle with mine also.  Goofily enough neosporin seems to work better on it at this moment than anything.

Good luck with it and if you find a solution let me know.
