For all of you out there that are suffering from hairloss I just want you to know that my endo has spoken. After I called the other day and left him a message about the fact that my hair has been falling out FOR ONE YEAR and maybe it's the Synthroid......guess what he says? It's not the Synthroid. Give it time. The hair is the last thing to get regulated. BLAH BLAL BLAH. What the heck ever. I will be bald and old before my hormones are EVER REGULATED.
My levothyroxineLevothyroxine Levothyroxine sodium says right in the side effects packet that hairloss can be a known side effect while levels readjust. Says 2-3 months I think... I'm still losing mine too. :-)
I just found this forum.I can relate to the hair loss problem.Mine just stopped coming in I guess when the old falls out and it is suppose to replace itself.I was looking at wigs.I firstFirst progesterone mc10 First progesterone mc5 First-progesterone vgs 100 First-progesterone vgs 200 First-progesterone vgs 25 First-progesterone vgs 400 First-progesterone vgs 50 First-testosterone First-testosterone mc went to a dermatologist.I didnt know I had a thyroid problem. The womanWomen's way with this incredible thick headHead and face reconstruction Head injury Head lice Indications of head injury Radial head injury of hair, giggled at me! I can't repeat my thoughts at that time. I had an appointment with my gyn. When he asked how I was doing, I said fine except for no eyebrows and being pretty much bald. I was in my early 50's. He said I needed harmones. My testostrone level was high from the blood test of the dermatoligist. I had my records transfered to him. He refered me to a good endo dr. Between the harmones he gave me and the thyroid treatment she has given me, I now have eyebrows and the big bald spot has filled in some.My sister's hair was thin too. She asked a pharmacist about something to use (not the Rogaine mess). He told her to use DooGro shampoo and Conditioner. It is found in the Afro American supplies. She came over to see me a few months later with a thick head full of hair. She uses it everyday and messages her scalp good to stimulate the blood flow. I have been using it a couple months now. I don't wash my hair every day because it is dry, but it does seem to be showing results. If I used it every day like she does, I might have better results. Lack of harmones from ageing (aging) and a partial historectomy played it's role, I am sure. It is much better though. I take a lot of meds especially high blood pressure (2 different ones) and they will affect hair growth (stops it along with the control of bp), so considering that, I'm nearly 59, the thyroid problem, I guess, though my hair is still thin in areas I am blessed, because there is a big improvement. Hope things work out. RJ
I've been on synthroid since June 2008 - the hair loss from my head was the first symptom to go away after I started on it, but my levels are not yet balanced as I still have quite a few other symptoms; I also lost most of the hair on my legs and armpits (not all bad as it cuts down on the shaving) and I'm still losing on legs and arms.
Hope you feel better. But add my endo to your list of morons, Lol !! I was prescribed Synthroid a few months ago and ended up in the ER, difficulty breathing. After telling him what happened, he prescribes the med to me again, I get a new prescription in the mail, from the VA hospital 2 weeks ago.
I really don't like to call him a moron because he's a nice man and appears to know what he's doing most of the time. But, the hairloss is something that's really getting to me. He won't listen. He blows me off about it, says it's unrelated, nothing to do with the meds, calm down, and so on. Well, it's been a YEAR. I think I have a right to get some answers here. I know that hairloss is a side effect of thyroid meds, I've deal with it in the past and it always stopped after a month or two. It's not stopping since my TT and I'm very concerned about it now. I want him to listen to me and try and figure out why my body is in such turmoil. In February I'm going in to have the big round of blood work for my one year, post TT check. After that I have an appt. with him where he's agreed to discuss it with me. And HE IS GOING TO DISCUSS IT!
