LAB RESULTS - HELP

Hi,

I have been on Synthroid since mid-March.  I was on Armour for 40 years with no problems and in Dec 2007 started with heart palpitations and after several decreases in dosage, my doctor changed me to Synthroid.  I have felt even worse since - and no heart palpitations - but feel horrible 100% of the time and mostly non-functional.  Anyway, I am going to an endo and have only seen him once.  I am on .88 mcg and don't feel any better at all.  I see him this Wednesday and just called to make sure they had my labs.  The nurse said they look normal and the doctor saw them and didn't make any notes on them.  Now I am praying he is a doctor who treats symptoms, not just the numbers.  The ranges on these labs were different than when I had labs in April.  I went to a lab closer to my home but it was the same group of labs.

TSH     0.75                     RANGE     0.40 - 4.50

T3 Uptake   30.4                               27.8-40.7

T4        10                                       4.5-12.5

T3 Total   144                                  60-181

I asked about Free T3 and thought they did it - but doesn't look like it.  I had that done in March by my other doctor and I believe it was 307 or something like that.  I don't know the ranges - but think it was mid-range at that time.  But I was on Armour then.

Thanks for any input,
Liz

Hi,

I don't know the answers to what you asked.  I don't think there is any more lab work to come.  Yes, I have been on Synthroid for two months after being on Armour for 40 years with no problems until heart palpitations started in Dec 2007.   After reducing the Armour 4 times from Dec-Mar I was switched to Synthroid and have been feeling even more terrible since.  I don't know what he will say on Wednesday.  I don't even know what my TSH was all those years on Armour because I never had one problem and never really worried about it.

What is the new range for TSH?  I understand there is one - but mine isn't high.  I just don't understand all of this and it is getting more upsetting since they say my numbers are normal......If he won't treat my symptoms - perhaps thyroid isn't the problem and then what in the heck would it be since it started out with the problem in Dec.

Thanks,
Liz

The Free T3 test may come along in a day or two. They probably had to send that one out.

The other tests I don't get. Why dont they just run a Free T4 and get it over with?

So you've been on Synthroid for two months...

Maybe you should ask them to run a Reverse T3 test.
Or try another T4 drug like Levoxyl.

What TSH were you comfortable at over the years?
Maybe you need to move up a point.
