LENGTH OF TIME TO FEEL DOSAGE CHANGE

by Liz1900, Mar 30, 2008 06:15PM
Hi,

I was recently changed from Armour thyroid to Synthroid due to really bad heart palpitations.  I am really having a terrible time adjusting to the change - it has been about 12 days - I was on 50 mcg (low dose) and upped it to 75 mcg four days ago.  How long, in those of you with a lot of knowledge, does it take for the body to adjust.  I know that I now don't have the T3 from the Armour - but when do you think I would notice how I am going to end up feeling on a certain dosage?  Since med upped to 75 mcg I feel only a tiny bit better - and that is still not very good at all.

Thanks,
Liz

I changed from Levothyroxin (levothyroxine) to synthroid and felt it right away.  I feel so much better on the synthroid than on the levothyroxin (levothyroxine).  I have been thinking about the armour by I am older and don't know if it would give me problems.  I don't have any heart problems but I don't want any either.  The t3 would be nice to have but I will wait and see what my new endo thinks.  I am taking 37.5 mcg of synthroid.  I am very sensitive to the hormone.   It will take time to find the right doseage.       linda

Hi,

I don't know much about all of this even though I have been on thyroid meds for over 40 years.  But I understand changing from Armour to Synthroid is a totally different ball game.  Very difficult due to the fact that Armour has T3 in it and Synthroid and other versions of that only have T4 and your body must convert it.  I have only learned that from the message boards.  Had no problems over the years and was lucky and had no need to research until my thyroid went out of whack in December and continues today.  I am glad you have no problems - I know my heart palpitations stopped since I went off the Armour - but that is just me and everyone is different.  I know it takes time, but have felt so bad - patience is a virtue - one I am having to learn:)

Thanks,
Liz
