Levaquin + Synthroid .. Anybody experience

a lack of absorption or Synthroid working less than usual?

Just wondering bcz I am on the Levaquin 500mgs 1X day for 7 days for a pretty bad urinary tract infection / small stone that passed (kidney) and along with normal side effects like gas, and feeling some tired/dizzy which I usually get from Levaquin I keep getting chills and more tired than normal but it comes and goes and yet my clinical symptoms for the UTI/stone passing are cleared up I do not think the chills are related to the medical problem and really wondering if after 5 days my TSH is moving around from interaction of the 2 meds?

I am going to take a 100mcg pill today instead of my normal 88 and see if it helps at all .. worst case scenario is I get anxiety but I don't see that happening now ..

Any thoughts or BTDT people who have been on this combo?  Of course, I will call my Doc if I have any hint this is infection related (chills) and not the thyroid, etc.

Yeap- the wonders of being a women.

Ya know - we didn't eat the apple -- HE DID -- why oh why do we pay.

That GB stuff is hard- Scott my husband had his out and fought it all the way - finally he caved.

I am dealing with that "mother of all meds" too right now with that prednisone. 50 for 5 days.

WOW am I moody - but I think you had figured that out already LOL

Today is the last day on that. Still have that pesky sore throat through - not swollen to much - but chest hurts.

NO SMOKING!!!!!!

I always :::cringe:::: when the "L" med is suggested ..............

So the Tate Tot got slam dunked by the antibiotic perhaps, eh?

Today is last day.

Cipro has no side effects for me usually but doesn't do the job with the UTI for me usually.

I had moderate blood (naked to eye) in the urine and it was messing (the infection) with my gallbladder and caused a GB attack but thankfully all settled down as I was not ready for GB surgery quite yet LOL (maybe never unless it gets really bad) .... it played havoc with its function causing an "attack" moreso than a stone bcz ultrasound was clear.

Uncomplicated lower UTI's can go away with lots of cranberry juice and TLC .. mine was on its way to kidneys so had to do big gun antibiotic this time (boohoo)

I took my Synthroid this AM and will let the post know out of curiosity if it interacts with the Levaquin today .............................could have been chills from GB not working right still, too ............................grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr this is the *pesky* stuff we can do wtihout right!!!!!  (GB literally!!!).

Big problems taking that Levaquin  - Tater with your thyroid meds. I too UTI last year and I lasted two days on the med.  I quit the antibiotic 2 days into it and stuck to a few natural things to get rid of it. I took 10 days to feel back to normal. That Levaquin is hard stuff man.

thanks for your thoughts ... I am allergic to Macrobid and resistant to most antibiotics as I get many UTI's due to a congenital condition I have that stones lodge deep inside the medullary ... called MSK (medullary sponge kidney) and if left untreated this UTI would progress into major kidney problems most likely as my UTI's are from stones with bacteria lodged deep inside the stone but stones too small to zap yet large enough to cause problems (4mm and under).

I actually skipped my Synthroid completely today and feel fine .......I will take my Lev. later tonight and let you know if it happens again ... I only have 2more to take .. was on a 7 day dose for this UTI and under care of great Uro, too ... I will take my Synthroid as scheduled tomorrow and not mess with dosing ... just my anger taking over on prev. post.

All of the side affects are due to the Levaquin. I would have to have a gun pointed to my head before I took levaquin, and even then I might still refuse. Levaquin is a very "punishing" medication. Levaquin has it's mplace in the physicians armamentarium. For example, if I had bubonic plaque, I might consider levaquin. But they have an EXCELLENT drug marketing program. The symptoms will eventually disappear. Don't change your synthroid dose.

so I know that isn't an issue + antacid use is spaced out by hours inbetween dosings, too.
