Level of TSH during the pregnancy

by Barcares, Mar 24, 2009 10:46AM
Dear Dr, I am female, 30 years old, 17th week of pregnancy. Before pregnancy was on thyroxine (75mg), as from the moment I learned that I am pregnant, I am taking 100mg.
Passed a test on the 13th week - TSH is 1.64. My doctor  (new, the previous left the clinic) tells me to increase the dose to 125mg, since her advice is to have TSH between 0.5 and 1.
Shall I increase the dosage? What would be your recommendation in terms of level of TSH during the pregnancy?

Thank you so much for your answer and kind regards./

The goal for TSH in pregnancy is 0.3-2.0 but many clinicians prefer TSH in the "hyper" end of the normal range ( <1.0 range).
The dosage of thyroid hormone replacement during and after pregnancy should be carefully monitored using the blood thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) value. So your new doctor is the one that likes TSH near 1, just trust him, he knows what he is doing.
