Lithium and hypothyroidism

by rockwiltech, Aug 13, 2008 03:15PM
I am on 1200mg Lithium Carbonate daily. I just received results from blood test and my TSH level was 37.225. I am very concerned about this because I really need to be on Lithium. What should I do?

Lithium will change the thyroid TSH levels into hypothyrodism - I agree if you are taking this med you really need it.

You doctors best recourse will be to balance you back with a thyroid med.

I only know of this one treatment clinically

My doctor just started me on 450 mg of lithium a day and I as well am hypoythroid. I take levothoxyrine. I had no idea that these two meds could interact with eachother cuz me doctor never told me. Now I'm nervous about my thyroid disorder.

Check out this information and consult with your doctor. Many doctors do not put this together , along with any anti depressant meds. any brain receptor drugs and even birth control can effect thyroid labs.
