The case in that link was about HYPERthyroid being caused by an abscess (pus pocket) caused by Staph. in the thyroid gland. The abscess could arise by a pyriform sinus fistula, which is not a typical sinus we think of when discussing a typical "sinus infection". Those are typically the frontal, maxillary, ethmoid, and perhaps sphenoidal sinuses.
