Losing and regaining body hair?

Just curious if other women especially have experienced a loss of body hair due to hypothyroidism?

I didn't even recognize that I had lost as much body hair as I had, until it's started growing back.  But since being on Synthroid, I am reminded how much I used to have to shave in years past.

I had lost a good portion of my eyebrows, almost all the hair on my legs, most of my underarm and regular arm hair.  Is this common with hypo?  Is that an early symptom or a very late/long undiagnosed symptom?

However, now that I am getting body hair back, I am losing a lot of hair on my head.  :(  Think I preferred it the other way around.  ;)

TBII was 25 with a ref range of <17, TRab was 20 with a range of greater than 60 being positive.  TSI was 120 with diagnostic range starting at 140%.

I've been on meds now for about 6 weeks.  88 on Synthroid and I upped my Cytomel to 7.5.  Miraculously I can use the bathroom now.  Woo-hoo!

I also have TSH guilt.  Part of me is concerned for a pituitary issue, as I also have very high cortisol.

That's a long thread, and I did read most of it, but let me ask a few questions to make sure I got the gist right:

What was your TBII, and TRab, with ranges, please.  Was TPOab and TGab tested?  What was the range on your TSI?

Am I correct that you have only been on meds since 8/8, less than a month?  You are currently on 88 mcg T4 and 5 mcg (or did you raise it to 10?) of T3.

As gimel told you...forget about TSH!!!  My TSH resides around 20.0 permanently.  I have to ignore it.  However, given the emphasis placed on TSH by the medical profession and patients to a large extent, I often suffer from what I call TSH "guilt".  I WANT my TSH to be useful.

Hi Goolara! Thanks for the information. As gimel pointed out, my other thread has most of my lab work on it and other information. But it's nice to know it's a common symptom of hypo. I think I was probably leaning towards hypothyroidism for a few months before diagnosis then. It seems the better part of 2013 was spent feeling a bit off. But still my TSH remains exceptionally normal. Wish I knew what that was about!

Yes, loss of hair, both head and body, is a very common symptom.  I lost a lot of body hair, but not much head hair.  Hair loss is often one of the first symptoms to appear and one of the last to disappear.  Your body tends to prioritize more important systems (heart, brain, etc.) over hair, loss of which is not life-threatening.

How long have you been on meds?  Which meds are you on?  Do you have current labs to post with reference ranges so we can evaluate your treatment?  Do you still have other hypo symptoms?
