Losing my hair

by SPencak, May 14, 2008 04:56PM
I was dxd hyperthyroid in Dec 2007 & was started on 100mg of PTU per day. In the past few months, I have been losing a lot of hair & I'm freaking out! I am going to have total thyroidectomy in Jan 2009 (need to wait to save money to pay my enormous deductible), but now I am afraid that I might be bald if I wait to have the surgery. Is there anything I can do to stop the hair loss?

Your hair fell out before PTU? My hair was dry, brittle, and falling out by the handful everytime I touched my head. But after PTU and getting my thyroid in check, it's grown back very nicely. I have even grown long hair which I couldn't before. The only weird thing is it's slightly wavy instead of stick straight like it use to be.

My hair was fine before the PTU. I started PTU in Dec 2007 & hair was fine. Around late March is when I noticed that I was losing some. Any thoughts?
