Low Normal TSH Low Normal T4

by lowcort, Nov 10, 2009 08:53AM
I have been feeling horrible for the last 6 months.  I am always exhausted, freezing cold all the time, constipated, dry skin, completely unable to loss weight, my concentration is aweful brain fog and zero sex drive which is really irritating
I went to my doctor and they did a bunch of bloodwork and most of it came out normal except my cortisol was low for the morning and my ACTH was below 10 which they said was low, but when they did a 24 hour urine cortisol it was within range.
My thyroid results were:

TSH .935  Range (.358-3.74)
Free Thyroxine .89  Range( .76-1.46)
Total T3 128 Range (70-190)

They also tested my Testosterone:

Total Testosterone 28 Range (11-56)
SHBG  102 Range (30-135)
Bioavailable Testosterone 5.9 Range ( 4.1-25.5)
Free Testosterone 2.2 Range ( 1.3-9.2)

My doctor said everything falls within range but don't you think a free testosterone of 2.2 with a range up to 9.2 is pretty low?  Also I read that if you have a low TSH and a low or low normal T4 it is considered Central Hypothyroidism.  I personally feel that I need Thyroxine replacement and Testosterone replacement.  Does anyone here agree?  They basically think I am just depressed and started me on Celexa, when that did not work they tried Prestiq, then Prozac and finally Lexapro.  Nothing helped!  I told them I was not taking any more antidepressants and that I wanted to try replacing my Thyroxine to see if that would help with my symptoms but they said my numbers were "within range"  and would not prescribe it to me.  I cannot believe that they have no problem just throwing all kinds of antidepressants at people but will not even let me try to increase my T4 level!!!!
I am a 34 year old otherwise healthy female and just want to feel better!
Can someone please give me some advice
