Low T3 and T4 levels

I was diagnosed as hypothyroid a while ago and have been taking thyroid medication and having regular blood tests. Recently a blood test showed up low levels of both T3 and T4.  Can you tell me why this might be?

The t3 is low, but the t4 is normal.

Have you had free t3 or free t4? These are better and more current tests.

Ask your doctor for a TSH now and each time you are due to re-test.
What were your levels when you were diagnosed? What medication and dose are you on?

Hi- Sorry to ask this, too, but can you post the reference ranges?

The doctor really needs to order the TSH each time, as well. This is the most important test. Looking at t3/4 in conjunction with the TSH is best.

If your TSH is elevated, it means you are hypothyroid again.

The t3/4 levels drop as the TSH rises. The TSH rises to try to stimulate the thyroid to make more t3/4 hormones.

Do you have your results you could post for us to see?

Hope this is helpful.
