My recent thyroid tests continue to confuse me - I'm currently taking 37.5 mcg Synthroid and 5 mcg (1/2 tab am/pm) My recent tests:
TSHPituitary and tsh Tsh .879
Free T3 1.72 (lowest in over 6 yrs)
Free T4T4 test .72 (lowest ever)
My endo keeps decreasing the synthroid dose - a couple of years ago I had been taking .75 mcg and my Free T 3 & 4 were in the mid-range and I felt much better than I do now! But I was told I was over medicated, so the doc kept lowering the dose. I have such BAD brain fog it isn't funny! I don't know what to make of it. In the last 6 weeks, we did add the 5 mcg of Cytomel hoping to see a difference in the Free T3 #, but it went from 1.75 down to 1.72, now I'm really confused. Suggestions anyone??
If your FT3 and FT4 were mid-range, and you felt good, I'd ask my doctor about an increase in Synthroid to get the free's back where you were more comfortable. Right now your FT3 is too low (at least by my lab's reference range), and your FT4 is at the bottom of the range. I don't think you'd benefit at this time from adding more Cytomel, since both FT3 and FT4 are low. I don't know why he lowered your dose when your free's were midrange. However, I suspect he's treating by TSH even though he's ordering the free's.
