I have been diagnosed with Hashimoto's and put on 88 mcg of synthroid and 10 mcg of cytomel. These dosages improved both individual T3 and T4T4 test but caused the TSHPituitary and tsh Tsh to be suppressed at .033 uIU/ml. I was then taken off of the cytomel which has caused the T4 to be at the low/normal end of the spectrum - 82 ng/dl. My MD wants to now decrease my synthroid to increase TSH levels, but that will lower my T4 again. Right now it is 10.1 mcg/dl - right in the mid/normal range. I would like to be in the mid/normal range with both T3 and T4 with a normal TSH level as well. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you
You should be just above midrange with your Free T4 and your Free T3. It looks like you are getting a total T4 test from the results you posted.
If that is the case, the test the doctor is using is not very acurate. You really need a Free T4 and a Free T3 both to see what your hormone levels actually are.
That may not sit well with your doctor if he is running a Total T4 and who knows what for your T3, but it is true.
If I am mistaken about precisely what tests you are getting, then I apologize.
Your doctor should be trying to get your TSH somewhere close to 1.0, but the Free T4 and Free T3 levels are more important than your TSH level. They should be, as you say, a little above midrange.
