Low TSH

by poohbear28, Oct 21, 2007 04:44AM
I recently had my TSH checked it came back low (0.04) a week later they took it again and added a Free T4 my TSH was even lower (0.03) and the free T4 was normal (1.03). I had a ultrasound which was normal and an uptake scan and that was also normal.Would this still be considered hyperthyroidism?  What kind of treatment would be used in a situation like this. I would like to be in the normal range as soon as possible so I can have a better chance of getting and staying pregnant.

Did they do a F/T-3?

If your TSH is low then you have hyperthyroid.
You should go see an endrocronologist.
However, your TSH is so borderline, even if you're trying to get pregnant - they may not do anything (I had the same issue TSH was normal, then 0.3,then 0.15,then 0).  They jsut monitored it so it didn't get worst.

They didn't run a Free T3. I called the doctors office this morning and the nurse said that they would probably put me on some thyroid medicine. They don't seem to be in any big hurry or maybe I'm just impatient. As far as an endocronologist my doctor had mentioned something about either sending me to one or just consulting with one on my treatment.

Without knowing your FT-3 it would be inappropriate just to guess.  Low TSH does not necessarily mean hyperthyroid especially with a low FT-4.  However, I am assuming your FT-4 is low within Labs reference range.  Depending what your FT-3 is and how it relates to the other two, could be several thyroid or other different health issues.
