Mass

Hi
I am a 37 year old woman with two small kids. About a year and a half ago they found a mass on my thyroid..I had a FNA biopsy and it was benign..I had two other ultrasounds to monitor it since then. Within the past two weeks, I have had a very sore throat (I am not sick), pain in my throat and sometimes ears (bad enough to take advil), just today started losing my voice...and also the mass which you could not see before but had to feel is now very clearly visible on my neck..it is also very tender if I touch it but you can clearly see and feel the mass when you could not before. I went to the dr today and she did not seem concerned..I am wondering how your mass can get so much bigger so quickly and the dr would not want to do another biopsy (been a year since I had one) or even an ultrasound..do you all think I should get a second opinion? I am of course thinking the worst and do not want to hesitate to get more tests done..My dr today told me it is probably bleeding and that is why it is all of a sudden bigger...she also measured it with a tape measure which seemed very inaccurate to me...thinking of going to a new dr...any input would be great..thanks!

Yes, get a different opinion. Do you go to an Endo, or ENT?

I had a TT about 16yrs ago due to graves/goiter/hyper.

I did have to have my submandibular gland removed due to a mass attached to it along with two lymph nodes that had become enlarged due to infection. The mass turned out to be benign, but my surgeon said there was not anyway of knowing unless it came out. My mass, lymph nodes had grown in size as well. Turned out my submandibular gland was badly infected.

My pain is all gone & doing well.

Get a second opinion.

Sometimes the blood vessel ruptures and bleeding takes place inside thyroid nodule leading to its rapid enlargement and related symptoms; the ultrasound shows growing cystic component within the nodule. The blood from the cyst is aspirated to cure the symptoms. You need to get the ultrasound, go to the different doctor if necessary.

By a mass i guess that is noduals you had biopsied. Do you also have a goiter? this as well as Noduals can cause the ears, throat and voice problems. Were your thyroid blood tests ok? i would want another opinion or ask for another scan, if the mass is bigger and causing you problems you have every right to have it looked at further..
