Medication Dosage

6js
I use to take Levothyroxin 125MCG tab mylan  One and One/Half Tablet six days per week and One/Half Tablet one day per week. This was bought at Walmart.

I started to obtain my Medication from the "VA". They sent me Levothyroxine NA ( Synthroid) 0.025MG Tab. Take One/Half once Daily.

What is the differance between 125MCG and 0.025MG ?  Will the dosage be correct ?

Typically, levothyroxine is dosed in mcg rather than mg; however the conversion would be 88 mcg = 0.088 mg.

Hi,

0.025 mg = 25 mcg.

Are you sure they are giving you the 0.025 mg and not 1/2 of the 0.250 mg?

If this dose you have written is correct it is only 1/5th of the 125 mcg, and you will be very much under medicated.

From what you said on levothyroxine you were taking 125+62.5 = 187.5 mcg x 6 days
                                                                              62.5 mcg on day 7,
This gives a total dose of 1,187.5 mcg over a period of 7 days.

On the VA med (0.025 mg) you'd be taking 25 mcg x 0.5 = 12.5 mcg/day x 7 days = 87.5 mcg over 7 days.

If the dose is really 250 mcg (0.25 mg) x 0.5 = 125 mcg/day x 7 days, gives a total dose of 875 mcg over 7 days.

The doses still don't match, and the VA dose is way less.  Please recheck with the VA prescription. Recheck with your doctor as well, if neccessary.

When changing from 1 brand to another it is always necessary to retest blood levels after 6 weeks, as different meds can have different bioavailability.

HOpe this helps.
