Many vegetarians are low in vitamin B-12, in particular, as it only comes from animal sources, such as meat, eggs, dairy, etc. Some vegetables are very good sources of folate...
Yes I believe he was referring primarily to B vitamins as I am a vegetarian. Thanks for the explanation Barb!
Are you referring to any particular vitamin?
Methylation is biochemical reaction in the body and the B vitamins are essential for the process to take place. From my experience and reseasrch, the methyl form of vitamins is mostly in relation to the B vitamins, which are necessary for the methylation process to occur...
For instance, in the case of Vitamin B-12, it's, typically, recommended that one use the methylcobalamin vs cyancobalamin, because the methyl is "body ready" whereas they cyanocobalamin must be "converted" to methyl prior to use... this applies to folate as well.
The most important B vitamins involved in the methylation process are Folate (Vitamin B9), Vitamins B-12, B-6 and B-2.
If your doctor has referred to others, please let us know what they are .
