This is my first time here...not sure if my problem is hyperparathyroid, or is a result of meds or high blood pressure.
Ended up in ER 3/17/08 with severe pain from beginning of month, pain registered #10 and only went away with morphine...Pain was diffuse (back, sides, all over abdomen), so I was unable to pinpoint exact area. Had some nausea, constipation, trouble urinating. CT Scan showed nothing...now it's the end of June and I'm still trying to figure out what's wrong with me...think I might have had a kidney stone attack, which everyone says is worse than childbirth (they're right; it's even worse than hemmorrhoid surgery, if that's indeed what it was). ER Dr did not think about kidney stones, so nothing was followed up in that regard.
I changed both GYN and Internist doctors (and clinic) because of problems/issues having to do with being sick since end of Feb (still sick, still don't know what's wrong with me). I have 14 of the 16 symptoms listed on Dr. Norman's site, along with many others.
My new Internist took new labs; Thyroid was 1.20 for TSH and 0.9 for FT4, which she said was normal. Cholesterol was elevated to 212 (borderline); Triglycerides were 177 (150 desired), LDL was 128 (100 desired), HDL was 49 (40 desired; 50-60 optimal for women). Glucose was 100 (normal). These were taken in June. I watch my diet, eat lots of fiber, drink lots of fluids, take supplements to help my heart--having these elevated shocked me. (I'm 5'3", 138 lbs)
Per issues with decreased libido and arousal, someone told me to check into my prescriptive meds and see about side effects and drug interactions. Three of them that I'm on apparently are bad for kidney stone formation and other stuff, HydrochloroTHIAZIDE, Metoprolol and Spironolactone. I'm also on Advair, Amlodipine Besaylate, Clindamycin Phosphate, Tretinoin gel, Noritate, Benzol Peroxide, Wellbutrin XL, and Cymbalta. I have asthma, allergies, high blood pressure, Seasonal Affective Disorder, and Atophic Dermatitist.
I suspect I have PCOS, but since I don't have cystic ovaries, didn't have trouble conceiving (have one daughter), and am not overweight, drs don't put much weight into it, even though my profile looks like a metabolic or endocrine problem.
On 3/14/08 calcium was taken as part of an electrolyte panel and was 9.6 (based on lab range 8.5-10.4). My Gyn doesn't believe parathroid hormone has anything to do with my systems (given low calcium score), but agreed to do a full PTH panel for me; I should know results from that this week sometime.
If PTH panel comes back totally normal (there are like 8-9 items checked), we'll look into reconfiguring my meds.
I feel so tired, fatigued, hips ache, I want to nap during the day, can't sleep when it's bedtime at night, can't stay asleep, sexual libido has nosedived (I'm only 40, for goodness sake!). I have headaches everyday now, many times progressing to migraine status. When I first got sick, thought for sure I was going through perimenopause because of symptoms of foggy brain, hot flashes and flushes, night sweats, etc. Have been told per lab results that I am not menopausal (but dr didn't say I wasn't "in the change").
I was diagnosed with high blood pressure two years before having my daughter (born in 2000), but think I've had it a lot longer; maybe since childhood. Pregnancy was uneventful, other than last three months; bed rest, hospital rest, pre-eclampsia, inducement, baby born 3-weeks early. Most of my current symptoms/problems first appeared about 2.5 years after her birth, and a "new" problem pops up every year or two.
Like everyone else here, I don't quite know what's going on, but since the beginning of this year, I keep going downhill and getting sicker and sicker. Problem is, I look healthy, so I can't find anyone to take me "seriously."
I apologize for this extremely long post. Guess I had more to say than I thought. If anyone has any insights into my "problems," would gladly like to hear them.
Thanks.

I'm seeing both the surgeon and the endo tomorrow. The surgeon is going to scope my vocal chords to see if the left one has come back to life (I think it has) since my neck dissection and the endo appt. is to discuss my upcoming RAI treatment and to get me started on Cytomel.
I've also had another lymph node pop up that one or the other of them needs to take a look at. Arghhh.
Having left lobe removed on Wednesday the 25th and potentially the other side at the same time depending on what occurs in surgery. Wish me luck and a fast recovery.
See ENT doctor for swollen lymphnodes this Friday.
My new endo appt is wed the 25th as well. Hopefully i'll get some answers on these nodules that keep coming and going.
Going to see another ENT on Wednesday, June 25. If he is rude or acts like I am nuts or should not be there, I think I'll go postal. I pray (for the doctor's sake) that he is genuinely concerned and can give me some indication on 1) why I have swelling and what is wrong with my thyroid 2) what is wrong with whatever is in the porus structure of bone behind my ear (the mastoid air cell), 3) and maybe why I have gained 12 pounds as fast as I can blink.
Think I need my button!
monday pm - appointment with surgeon to check incision etc
wednesday - appointment with oncologist, this is the one i'm scared about!! gulp
