Multi-nudular goiter

I was diagnosed with a multi-nodular gointer in november '08. I had noticed a lump on my throat of r a very long time and my primary doctor never mentioned anything  about it. I had a slight case of TMJ as well, but it was never really bothersome. In June of  '08 it got a lot worse. Can the multi-nodular goiter flare up a TMJ disorder? I noticed when a biopy was done on my nudules, they hit a nerve and that pain shot straight through my jaw and into my ear. Is it possible that the goiter enlargement is making my TMJ flare up worse?

They've also ran an MRI on my jaw and found that the disk is deformed and dislocates. Physical therapy just makes it swollen for days on end. I was just curious since the enlargement of my thyroid if it was causing the muscles or nerves to create the TMJ to worsen.

Yes. It works up to a point. I really am not supposed to take much of it because it's caused ulcers a couple years ago. I try to stay away from it.

Just one stupid question: have you tried Ibuprofen for the pain?

Thank you for the informaion. I've spoken to many people who think i am nuts to believe that it is related. Come to think of it, would it cause or seem to cause sinus infections? I swear i have been stuffed up for a real long time and it makes no sense. I've decided to go ahead with the total thyroidectomy. I hope i would feel a lot better after it is out. Thank you.

I found an interseting reference:
" painful thyroiditis. Unlike most forms of thyroid disease which are more common in women, this type of thyroiditis occurs equally in both men and women. It usually starts out as a harmless viral illness such as the flu or a cold which invades the thyroid gland causing thyroiditis. This type of inflammation is quite painful and you may find that the front of your throat is sore to the touch. Often this pain extends to the jaw or ear and can be confused with a whole host of other diseases including temporomandibular joint problems (commonly referred to as TMJ), ear infections or even Strep throat. Sometimes only one lobe of the thyroid is affected causing pain and swelling on just one side of the neck instead of both."
