My Results

Hi I'm just concern about the abnormal test results I got back. The following is the test that were taken...

TSH   50.563
Triiodothyronine, Free, Serum  1.6
T4, Free (Direct)   0.75

Those are the only test that were taken. Do I need to follow up for more test? The medication I take is Levothyroxine 100mcg. Is that the correct amount I'm suppose to be taking?

Depending on your thyroid history, your TSH should be around 1.0. It looks like your med dosage needs to be increased. But I don't know the lab ranges on your tests, so it may be a bad TSH test result. But I doubt it.

What's the lab range on the Free T3? 2.3-4.6 or something like that? What about the Free T4? 0.60-1.80?

The range on the Free T4 is , 0.61-1.76. On the Free T3, I don't see nothing on my Test Results. i don't think they checked for that. Like I mention before the only test I have results on are...
TSH   50.563
Triiodothyronine, Free, Serum 1.6
T4 test, Free (Direct)   0.75
and the medication I'm taking for it is Levothyroxine 100mcg. The range for the TSH is 0.350-5.500, and the range for Triiodothyronine, Free, Serum is 2.3-4.2. Just the result of those (3) test are shown.
Do you think I should request to have a Free T3 test?

The Triiodothyronine, Free Serum test is a Free T3 test.

So your Free T4 is 0.75 and your Free T3 is 1.6. Your Free T4 is low and your Free T3 is WAY below lab limit.

Your med dosage is hard to comment on. How long have you been taking 100mcg of Levothyroxin (levothyroxine)?

It's possible you may have a conversion problem going on. You may not be converting T4 to T3 properly.

What is your thyroid history?

I was diagnosed about 6-8 yrs ago, I think. Those test results were taken on March 8, 2008. Before that time I was taking the 50mcg. Ever since then I've been taking the 100mcg. One thing I have notice is that I have a hard time loosing weight! Is that common? Do you think I should be taking a higher dose?
As I'm getting older my concerns on this have increase. So I just want to get as much information to educate myself more on this. I really appreciate your time.

The test results are from March 8th. Shortly after your dose was doubled to 100mcg. You should have been tested again at six weeks and again at six weeks. Twice in the first three months from when you started the 100mcg dose.

You don't know what your levels are now or if the dose is correct or not. You should get another battery of tests to see how your hormones are doing.

If you get another dosage increase, tests every six weeks until your numbers are good for two test periods in a row, or three months.
