My TSH,Ft3,FT4&TPO test results

Hi there,  I'm new here but have been reading for awhile.

I've been feeling lousy for a long time.  Not enough to cause serious concern, or to keep me from functioning completely, but I have struggled with having low motivation and energy, some mild depression, moderate weight loss.Headache, swallowing problem, thorat choking, constipation, throat dryness.
I have to really push myself to get the usual stuff done...laundry, house cleaning, etc. Im workign& i become so lethragic that i dont feel like going for work &have been unable to concentrate on it or feel motivated to work on it. I get tired very fast.

I took the advice from others and got the VIP Plus II workup from HealthCheck USA.  I didn't go to my doctor because I know they don't check the Free T3 and T4, and I wanted to have a full set of test results to see for myself and to establish a baseline.

Here are the results of the thyroid tests:

Test Description            Result        Range      Units
TSH                                 5.4      0.350-5.500    uIU/mL
T4,Free(Direct)                  0.8      0.7-1.8   ng/dL
T3 Free                            1.52     1.6-3.5   ng/dL
TPO test                       809 IU /ml normal range is less than 12 IU/ml

I was hoping someone could help me interpret and perhaps give me advice on where to go from here.

My opinion is that the TSH may be a bit on the high side which may be contributing to my lack of energy,  and also my TPO is very high.

(My mom has hypothyroidism).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I also tested positive for thyroid antibodies (and therefore was diagnosed with Hashimoto's--the research states that 95% of people who test positive for thyroid antibodies have hashi)  and even with a normal TSH  I was put on thyroid replacement therapy with the goal of keeping my TSH around 1.0 and I feel pretty good with my TSH at that level.

In Canada (where I live) the upper limit from my lab for TSH is 4.0 so you would be considered hypothyroid here.

Have you had your thyroid palpated by a doctor?  A large thyroid (sometimes caused by the inflammatory process of Hashi's and/or thyroid nodules) can cause a choking  sensation, swallowing difficulties.  I would definitely push for an ultrasound of the thyroid.

Good luck

The TPO result indicates you have Hashimoto's disease. It looks like you are mildly Hypo.

Your TSH and T4 are in range, but barely. Your T3 is below normal. You would probably feel better if your TSH was lower and your T3 and T4 were higher. A small dose of Synthroid would probably be in order, but your doctor may not agree.

You need to discuss your test results and your symptoms with your doctor and see if he will perscribe a small dose of Synthroid.

Good luck. Hope you feel better soon.
