My TSH is 66.060 and see Endo Thurs. HELP!

I thank all of you in advance for your replies! I posted a couple of days ago and I just want to be sure of what questions to ask Endo this Thursday. My story again is that I had TT 12/17/09 and was started on 50mcg Synthroid and remained on that dose until 2/13/10 and now am on 75mcg. Endo said he wanted to start me out slow because I don't tolerate meds well and also have anxiety disorder. Maybe he left me on 50mcg to long as my TSH is 66.060! The only way to describe how I feel is anxious on inside and tired on outside. Very irritable. My other lab #'s are T-uptake 1.08 and T4 5.6. He wanted me to do a 12hr fast before the bloodwork and I did between a 9 and 10hr fast. I have trouble fasting that long. Plus I was chewing a piece of sugarless gum @ the time of bw. Would any of that affect my TSH reading? As you can see, I'm grasping for straws @ why my TSH would be so high...aside from the fact that I think my Synthroid should've been bumped up sooner. My Endo is the Director of Endocrinology @ the hospital that I go to..which I'm starting to think means he's so busy that it's like lets try this and see you in 2months. I know this regulating takes time but I'd like to go in there prepared as he is even hard to reach by phone. Any idea how long it will take to feel semi-normal again? Also, when Endo bumped Synthroid up to 75mcg he said for me to remember that I might feel side effects similar to anxiety..(and I do)..but how do I know if it's from the Synthroid or just plain old anxiety? Please help and best wishes to all of us suffering with this "fine tuning" crap!

Thanks for your reply! Yes, my Endo wanted me to do a 12hr fast. Maybe because he checked sugar, also? The reference ranges are as follows...It  says for T-uptake the range is 0.66 to 1.27 and mine is 1.08. For T4 range is 4.5 to 12.0 and mine is 5.6. For TSH range is 0.400 to 4.000 and mine is 66.060. So, being that this was 1st time I had bloodwork and I'm new to this, im just going by what this copy of my report says and it looks like they tested the T4? I see Endo Thursday and I'll let you know how it goes. Seems to me endo is going to increase me @ small increments and it's going to take forever for me to be where I need to and feel better. Is there anything else I can tell you that I'm missing? Thank you so much for responding and I hope you are feeling well!  Lynda.

Hi,

TSH of 66 is high!  Obviously your meds are too low and you need an increased dose.

Can you post the reference ranges for the other tests Please?  They vary from lab to lab so we can't comment without the ranges.

Fasting or otherwise doesn't affect the TSH levels.  I've never had to fast for my thyorid labs.

I would be considering that the current feelings are from the thyroid levels being out.  It is still going to take a few months of adjusting.

Considering  your levels now, would be best if he adjusts and then tests again in just 4 weeks.... to see what sort of further adjustment is needed.  Or adjust by 25 mcg for say 2 weeks and then adjust again for another 25 mcg increase after another 2 weeks.  I would think the total adjustment still needed is more than just 25 mcg.

Let us know how you go at your appointment.

If you can do ask them to test FT3 and FT4 at the next bloodwork, which will give a better idea of overall thyroid hormone levels.
