NP Thyroid Dosage

I just started thyroid meds last year in October and on 1/16 of this year was changed from 50mg of Levo to 1/2 gr of NP Thyroid.  I have been increasing it slowing and had reached 2 gr and was actually going to increase again this weekend to 2 1/2 gr.  My questions is this.  I started my period yesterday and it felt like I was suddenly over medicating.  Jittery, irregular heart beat (premature beats - not racing).  After that feeling yesterday, I reduced my meds today to 1 1/2 gr just in case it is effecting it or maybe the t4 finally built up.  I don't know.  This is very new to me.  Does anyone know if my hormones could effect the meds?  I haven't been tested again since he changed my meds last month but hadn't felt over medicated until yesterday, if anything, I still felt tired in the late afternoon and hair has been falling out again on this med so I thought I still needed to increase until this.   Thanks for any help.

We all react differently.  A one size fits all approach usually doesn't work all that well.  You may find you never have to be on as much as 2-3 grains.

Ask your doctor, of course, but it I were you, I think I'd stay at 1.5 grain until the hyper symptoms go away at least.  1.5 grains is still considerably more than your 50 mcg of levo.  1.5 grains is approximately 55 mcg of T4 and 13.5 mcg of T3.  So, you're already at quite an increase over your previous meds.  T3 is around four times more potent than T4.  So, 1.5 grains is roughly equivalent to 110 mcg of T4

I think hyper is worse than hypo.  Since you've both increased and added T3, I'd take this as a wakeup call from your body telling you to slow down.  Give it a few weeks, see what your labs look like, see how you feel.  You can always tweak it some more then if you need to.

Yes, I split my dose.  1 gr at 4-5am and 1 gr at around 1-2pm.   Today, I am actually taking 1/2 gr at 5am, noon, and prob about 7pm just to ease the jitters.  Should I stay at 1 1/2 gr then for a bit to see or stay at the 2gr?  I was trying to follow the STTM method of increasing until I got to between 2-3 gr, where it said to slow down.  But, everyone is different and I might be more sensitive.

The whole endocrine system is interdependent, so reproductive hormone changes can affect how you react to your meds.

You've increased considerably in just over a month.  It might be time to take a break, give the T4 portion of your meds a chance to settle and retest before increasing further.

Do you split our dose into two halves?
