Neck and Throat Pain -Over a Year

For over a year now I have had pain in my neck and throat, it continues to get worse. I have seen doctors and specialist with no prevail. I have had ultrasounds (both lobes of the thyroid gland are identified and are slightly heterogenic. Dimensions are 1.6x2.0x4.1 cm for the right lobe. The left lobe measures 1.5x2.2x4.0 cm. The isthmus measures 2.2mm. There are small hypoechogenic areas seen in both lobes. The one on the right measures 3x3x4mm and the one on the left measures 6x9x16mm. The larger one seen on the left appears to correspond to a cyst with some debris within it. There is subtle backwall enhancement and through enhancement of sound demonstrated.), idione uptakes, and blood tests (all normall) done. I have pain from my collar bone to my jaw bone. It is a burning, tingling pain. The more I talk, the more it hurts. I have lost my lobido and gained over 30 lbs in six months time. Every so often I have a no producing cough that last for an hour or so and go's away. Hot nor cold affect it. I'm scared and tired of hurting. Can someone please help me?

Are you in the states? If so, it is your right as a patient to get your bloodwork. Also, read the post on this forum called 'goiter'. Members share tips on handling the neck pain/swelling.

I am sorry you're going through this.

Tamra,
I would like to post my blood work but my doctors office won't give me a copy. To top that off I called them everyday last week to make sure they had my new number and no one every called me back. Then on Saturday I checked my old voicemail and there was a message from my doctors office saying they needed to talk to me about my lab results. So I called back today and that nurse was off and they said I would have to wait till she came back tomorrow. I am so fraustrated. The pain was so bad this weekend I spent the entire time on the couch in tears. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Sorry for venting.

The reason it took me so long to get a Hashi diagnosis is because my TSH was supposedly normal. If a doctor refuses to look further into your thyroid because of a 'normal' TSH, then find a new doctor!

Tamra,
I will try and get copies of my blood work tomorrow. If you don't mind me asking what are some of your symptoms? I have alot of different things go on in the past year and I've had to go to different specialists. And none of them could help me. So now I wonder if those things are related to whats going on with my neck. First it was the weight gain, then the headaches, fatigue, pain in my neck and throat, loss of libdo, and increased depression. I just want to be normal again.

I suffered for very long, too, because my labs were all normal TSH 2.71 and FT4 (1.3). Then I asked specifically for the Hashimoto's TGab and Anti-TPO blood tests. My Anti-TPO was way out of ballpark. Now we know I have Hashi, and guess what? My bloodwork in (FT4) August was NOT normal.

With Hashi, we swing from normal, to high, to low in the first stages of the disease, that's why the most accurate tests are the antibody tests, TGab and Anti-TPO.

Please post your 'normal' numbers here, so we can better assist you. Also, get those blood tests I mentioned.

TGab
Anti-TPO
Repeat:
TSH
FT4
FT3

Take care...
