Need help With swallowing problem

by matrin, Oct 17, 2008 04:09PM
Hello and thank you for providing a beautiful website like this where people can turn to and relief some of the uneeded daily stress and anxiety from our lives. I was just concerned with my throat and the problems it has been giving me, ie popping feelings in the left side of the throat when swallowing saliva, and also the feeling of choking on my foods and liquids when i go to injest. It feels to me like i inhale the food rather than swallow and have to cough it back up sometimes throwing up as well. Its a horrible feeling to me causing much pain and anxiety I have come to the conclusion of having some sort of cancer in my throat or have an enlarged thyroid which also has met most of my symptoms.. I am fully covered and ready to do what ever i need to get the job done.. im just anxious as well because it feels like im counting down my days living my life day by day and unusually depressed if anyone can help that would maybe help with whats going on in my life at this point. I have no visual lumps on throat or pain in throat only some chest pains and pains in the elbow deep by the joint feels stiff... Thanks plenty in advanced to any out there.

Hi...I am no expert, but would suggest that u have ur PC dr set up some testing...barium swallow study to see what is going on ( I had this...not fun, but it should be done) There are others here that can suggest what blood labs that should be done...u need to get a dx....ur dr may also schedule an ultra sound to check for nodules ect.....try an relax...I know it's not easy...but stress will add to ur list of symptoms.

Get to ur drs office and get a complete check up.

Good luck
Godspeed

i had the same problem in 2002. popping or clicking throat when swallowing saliva. i went to UCLA and Dr. Gerald Berke performed a 45-minute outpatient surgery to remove a cartilage known as the superior cornu that was causing the hyoid bone to pop. the problem was solved.
good luck !

Your symptoms sound very like GERD (Gastro-oesophageal Reflux Disease), which is basically where you produce too much acid. This splashes back up into your throat causing irritation, dryness and pain. Difficulty swallowing and choking are also very common. It is very easily treatable with meds. If I were you I'd ask your doc about this along with other possible conditions.
