Need knowledge on this, please help.

I wasn't sure if this was the correct place to post my troubles, but my symptoms include some thyroid pain and swelling, so here it goes.

Recently i have developed something along the lines of tonsillitis, very sore throat, hurts quite a lot to swallow, and my tonsils are both quite inflamed and swollen (along with the glands on the sides of my neck), and there is some clear evidence of infection, (yellow junk around my tonsils) yuck.

I would have no concern if it was just that simple.
I have tried searching google and other websites for answers and help with my sickness but nothing seems to match up.
The most unusual problem with my tonsils is that i seem to have a gash or hole in one of them, almost separating the tonsil into 2 smaller tonsils, but at the same time, they're still connected as one, and it's this one tonsil that's giving me all the trouble.
I know this must sound strange or silly but i don't know how else to explain it.

Every result for tonsillitis or infected tonsils etc. relate back to tonsil stones, which funnily enough i don't have and haven't had in years.

I went to the pharmacy after trying to see a doctor and being told that there were no available time slots for me to see anybody, from the pharmacy i told one of the staff about my tonsils, not mentioning the hole... i don't know why i didn't, maybe i was too scared to find out i had something seriously wrong with me.
I explained about the infection and the swelling, the pain and all the rest.
He gave me some difflam lozenges and throat spray and told me if the problem doesn't go away in a few days to see a doctor for anti-biotics. I honestly don't think the problem will be going away in the next few days because the spray and lozenges aren't doing all that much.

Could somebody please give me some advice or a new perspective/opinion on what it is that could be wrong with me.
Also, if it's of any help... i have been smoking for the past 8 months, and my tonsil pain is accompanied by some weakness of muscles and sore joints, also a bit of a fever. (I think this could be because i sleep with a fan on almost every night, and i don't like a lot of blankets on myself).

Thanks for taking the time to read.

Sounds a bit like Cryptic Tonsil to me.  Are there several little pockets/crevices on each tonsil?  Do you ever have little whitish/yellowish things come out of them that almost represent food (these smell bad!)?  Bad breath, etc?  Look online about cryptic tonsil and see if that represents any of your symptoms?  I know I have it, but havent signed up for the tonsillectomy yet.  Good luck!

I am not a huge advocate of antibiotics at all but it sounds like you need some ASAP.

It could be as simple as tonsillitis, but you do need to see a Dr to be sure. Call and set up an appointment as soon as possible. In the meantime try warm saltwater gargles and tylenol, it may relieve some of your symptoms. If it becomes too severe go to your local emergency room. You might have to consider the possibility of a tonsillectomy, it just may be your best option. I wish you the best. Below is a link that may shed some light on your issue. Take Care and God Bless.
