Nodule Removal

by palisades, Mar 18, 2008 06:45PM
My grandmother recently had cysts that were found on her thyroid drained, and her endocrinologist recommended that the nodules that were found on her thyroid be surgically removed. A fine needle biopsy was done and the doctor said everything came back fine (benign). My grandmother is incredibly bothered and worried over the fact that the doctor recommended her to get surgery. She had mostly cysts but the doctor told her she had one nodule that was solid and cystic (I guess they're called complex nodules?). I was wondering if you could shed any light on whether or not she should get surgery and why her endocrinologist would recommend this if her nodules did not test as cancerous. She was wondering if there were any medications she could take to shrink it instead.

Thank you very much! :) You will put her mind at ease!
