Nodules, Levothyroxine and PVC's

by DaneMom, Oct 29, 2009 09:49AM
I am a 38 year old female who has been treated for Hypothyroidism for about 15 years now.  Recently (July30, 2009)  I began having irregular heartbeats...I have an innocent heart murmur which only gives me problems if I am completely exhausted, this time it started and didn't stop.  It was effecting my sleep habits as well.  Saw my GP who did a quick ekg and saw nothing, but my normally low BP (117/67) was now 150/105, went to a Cardio for a stress test and ultrasound and all is well with the heart.  Am now on 75mg/day of beta  blocker Metroprolol Succinate to control the constant PVC's...not really working.  Have seen and Endo and had TSH levels off the top of the chart- they range from 8.5-25 depending on when they are taken and am taking 175mcg/day of Levo, antibody test for Hashimoto's came back pos. also have RA.  Two nodules on the left side were FNA'd and one shows "suspicious for follicular neoplasm"  and will be scheduled for surgery.
My question is twofold...can the Levo be contributing to the PVC's as I have read?  Also with the partial and/or total removal of the Thyroid gland will the irregular heartbeats stop?...I hope so as they are disturbing to feel all day and all of this is making me chronically tired.

Hello! My daughter is nine and born without a thyroid gland. She was on Synthroid (also a synthetic t4) untill last spring. We had to switch her to desiccated (has t3, t4 t2,t1, calcitonan, and selinium in it)  (Naturethroid ) due to PVC's that developed when she turned eight while on the synthetic t4. I found out that her freet3 was very low while her freet4 was high. She was not converting enough of the storage hormone t4 into the active hormone t3 within her body. She now gets plenty of t3 and she no longer has PVC's. For us, the available t3 within the body was the key. Once this was in balance with the t4, and kept at a higher level within normal range, the heart palps ceased as well as many other hypothyroid symptoms. I hope you find this helpful to your situation. Good luck and God Bless!
